This past week we celebrated a quiet little Thanksgiving at home in Charlotte. We had a traditional thanksgiving lunch (which neither child had one single bite of!) and watched the Macy's parade and spent the holiday relaxing as a family of 4. It was nice to be home but we missed being with our extended families.
On Friday morning we headed to Bryson City, NC to spend the weekend in the mountains and ride the Polar Express train! We rented a cabin with my sister Heather and her husband Strom and my nephews J.Strom (9) and Field (5). We have never done a trip with them and we were excited to all experience the Polar Express together. The train ride was just magical! It was an experience I know Ayden and I will always treasure and I already told Ayden I want to take the kids once more when they are a little older because although I know Graham will remember the trip Anne Holland was a little young and I want them both to remember such a fun experience.
We've been reading the book Polar Express for a few weeks (Graham had it memorized after a week I think) and we've watched the movie too, so to say Graham was excited is an understatement! When we saw the train he squealed, I don't think we could park the car fast enough. When we boarded the Polar Express they were playing music from the movie and the waitresses were dressed just like in the book with big white hats and dinner jackets. We were served hot cocoa and had TONS of sugary sweets waiting on our table for us. The kids had SO much sugar and were bouncing up and down dancing that I thought they might get sick. AH had the time of her life! She enjoyed every second and wore me out walking up and down the aisle the entire time. That's right-she is officially a walker and loves her new found freedom. It was hard to contain her during the train ride but luckily everyone was very nice about the roaming toddler!! We rode the train all the way to the North Pole and once we arrived Santa boarded the train and gave everyone their very own silver bell, just like in the story. We sang Christmas carols the whole way back, it certainly got us all in the Christmas spirit! The trip was so much fun and I'm so glad we experienced it with my sister and the Thurmond boys. Enjoy the pictures!:
3 men and a little lady! Checking out the "décor" in our cabin
The boys and their loveys!
Ready to board the train!
Before we boarded the train the kids had their picture taken with Santa. Graham was so excited to sit on Santa's lap, AH- not so much!
Thurmonds
When Santa boarded the train Graham yelled "SANTA!" We were sitting in the back and believe me everyone heard the excitement in our little boy's voice!
